H. L. Mencken

Henry Louis Mencken (1880–1956), the “Sage of Baltimore,” was an American journalist, essayist, and magazine editor. He was one of the most influential American writers and prose stylists of the first half of the 20th century. Mencken is best known for his writings on the American language and his acerbic commentary on American life, literature, and culture.
